It's been a busy month! This weekend we trekked down to Canon, GA for two days of AKC Lure Coursing. The weather was hot and humid but we had a great time! On Saturday Json won the Specials Stake and BOB to earn 5 more points towards his LCX! On Sunday Json was second to his cousin Beetlejuice for 3 more points and Fable placed 5th! Hattie got to do a fun run on Saturday as well.

This weekend we travelled to Conway, AR to spend some time with Hattie's breeder and co-owners. Fable was entered in the breed ring and Hattie was entered in Beginner puppy with her sister. Fable ended up taking Select/BOBOH both days, though he showed unlike himself. Hattie was the star winning BOB and Group 1 both days! She was an absolute rockstar! So proud of her!
We headed to Limestone, TN for LGRA and the sighthound only Fast CAT this weekend! It's been over a year since we've done LGRA or Fast CAT so I wasn't sure how things would go.
In LGRA, Fable was the only one running, as Json hasn't had any box training. Fable's scores from 2022 were good enough to keep him in the high point race, and that's where he stayed all weekend. Fable won both meets completely undefeated in a field of 11 Ibizans! Fable earned 4 points both Saturday and Sunday leaving him just a 1/2 point away from his GRC and just one meet away from his SSR! In Fast CAT, Json ended up being the fastest Ibizan of the weekend clocking in at 28.69mph! Json also finished his BCAT! With their runs from this weekend the boys should both land in the top 5 for Ibizans in Fast CAT this year. Hattie had a great time and got to do some baby box practice! Hattie earned her very first title this week! She completed and passed her Virtual Home Manners Puppy test! Pending AKC, and my ability to remember to submit the paperwork, Hattie is now:
Marwyn Nahala What Is Love At Kosmos *VHMP* We headed out to Fayetteville, AR for this year's Beezer Bash! Fable showed Friday and Saturday, and both boys ran ASFA on Friday and both days of AKC Lure Coursing Saturday and Sunday.
Fable showed well both days but didn't place in a deep quality entry. He showed happily and moved well. Both boys ran well on Friday, taking 3rd (Json) and 4th (Fable). Fable also won the performance stake! During the weekend trials Fable helped QC one of the ridgebacks and then continued to run well with Fable placing 5th and Json just out of the ribbons on Saturday. On Sunday Json placed 3rd and Fable just out of the ribbons. Hattie had so much fun hanging out and meeting everyone. She even got to do a puppy bump! This is not something I wanted to write. Today, I helped Peanut cross the rainbow bridge. Early this year I had found some lumps on her throat. They turned out to be cancer. At 13.5 years old, and as stressed as she is about vet work, my vet team and I decided the best course of action was palliative care. We got two more months that I am incredibly thankful for. My world has now made a massive shift.
Peanut was the first dog I got as an adult. She has gotten me through hard times and given me a reason to get through the day. She made me the trainer and handler that I am. She struggled so much with her anxiety and lack of socialization as a young dog, but with a lot of work and time, became one of the best. She was reliable, trustworthy, and so so loved. My original red dog. I don't know what else to say. My world will never be the same. I love you, Peanut, forever and always. You'll always be the very best red dog We attended the DAKC Agility Trials this weekend. Fable had a beautiful run to (re)finish his Open Jumpers With Weaves title after losing several qualifying scores due to a paperwork error. So proud of my Moose puppy! Fable had some really nice components to his Excellent level runs this weekend, just couldn't quite put it all together.
Json got himself a little bit scared on Friday, but rallied for two strong runs on Saturday and was just shy of qualifying. We attended the HOTC February AKC Agility Trials this weekend. The trial was Json's debut in 'big kid' agility and he did so incredibly well! Json was entered in Fast, Novice Standard, and Novice Jumpers with Weaves on Saturday.
He was understandably distracted during his Fast run, and our goal was to try out all of the contact equipment and the tunnel to make sure nothing was feeling scary. He handled all the equipment like a pro! For his standard and jumpers runs he was still a little distracted but held it together so well and managed to earn his first qualifying scores with 2 first placements! Beyond proud of my best Baby Spice! Fable had some really nice runs as well, but we are still pulling some skills together. |
